December decision due for JLR development

The development of Jaguar Land Rover’s new engine plant at the i54 enterprise zone site could take another step forward at the end of the month.
South Staffordshire Council’s Regulatory Committee is expected to consider an application for the Fordhouses site on Tuesday 20 December.
Although Wolverhampton City Council is the driving force behind i54, its location means that South Staffordshire Council is charged with granting permission.
If approved, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) could begin building its new engine plant as early as the New Year.
The £355 million facility is planned to be 800,000 sq ft and the overall Black Country enterprise zone (including i54 and sites in Darlaston) is expected to stimulate the creation of almost 4,000 net new jobs by 2015. The luxury car manufacturer’s new engine plant will create 750 new jobs alone.
